Drop in Consultation on changes to Brookvale by the Councils
– January 19th 2010
News
item added April 2010 when removed from home page
You
are invited to a drop in consultation at the Village Hall between 9.00am
and 7.30pm to give your views on work so far on the Brookvale Loddon
Project. This is a partnership project; Hampshire County Council and
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council working with the Environment Agency,
special interest groups and the local community.
The
project will create a green route for walkers and cyclists from West Ham
Leisure Park to the town centre facilities and the station, passing through
a chain of open spaces giving improved opportunities for sport, play, quiet
recreation and enjoyment of nature conservation areas.
Please
come along and comment on the outline proposals. The exhibition will
include displays by local community groups, refreshments and a children’s
activity table. There will also be a competition to help find a name for
the path.
These
changes will affect the street scene you see every day. There will be
changes to the parks and flood issues, parking and safe cycling will all be
under consideration. If you can’t make that day please visit the online
consultation pages at http://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/council/consult/currentconsult
, contact Hannah Walton on 01962 832344 or email landscape@hants.gov.uk.
BCA host The Princess and the Pea – Pantomime by Proteus
News
item added April 2010 when removed from home page
Sometimes the
smallest things cause the biggest problems......
It's
a hard life being a Handsome Prince, having to spend all your time looking
for the perfect Princess to rescue, and attending silly royal balls. It's
no picnic being a Princess either, especially if you're much happier
climbing trees and fighting dragons, rather than looking pretty and wearing
big dresses. Come and see what happens when fairy tale characters decide to
do what they really want, and no-one is quite what they seem! This winter
Proteus bring you another classic tale, created and mixed with their unique
blend of physical theatre, circus, music and film. Suitable for all the
family, you'll never look at peas in the same way again...
The
pantomime will be at Brookvale Village Hall on Sunday 24th
January at 2.30pm. Tickets will be £6, £4 for concessions. Tickets will be
available at our Christmas social event or by calling Pam on 01256 324313.

Miss Queens Road Scary Halloween House?
News
item added April 2010 when removed from home page
See it on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAIngW2WvBU.
The Newmans at 33 Queens Road
put on an excellent display again this year. They had the following
message: “Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone that came trick or
treating to our house on Saturday night. Everyone seemed to have a
good time and the weather couldn’t have been better (a clear night with a
full moon).
We lost count after 200 children, not
including their accompanying adults. An extra big thank you goes to
all those that put money in the collection tin. We raised £139.73 for
St Michaels Hospice.
The whole night had a really good
community feel, with many neighbours meeting in the street and even people
driving in from other parts of Basingstoke just to trick or treat in
Brookvale.
Again thanks to everyone for a great
night
Regards
The Newmans 33 Queens
Rd
Adrian , Eunice Lauren Molly &
Jarrett”
Thank you to the Newmans for putting the
display on for us all, and Well Done for raising all that money! The
Halloween disco in the hall also went down well, see our event report for more information.

News
item added November 2009 when removed from home page
Maintenance
works require the complete removal of the existing paint system to the footbridge
followed by the application of a new paint system. In order to provide a safe working area
and ensure the safety of the general public it will be necessary to close
the footbridge temporarily for periods during the works and put in place
temporary lane closures on Churchill
Way on the approaches to the footbridge. A temporary diversion for pedestrians
will be in place via the shopping centre to the east of the
footbridge. The lane closures on Churchill Way
will be restricted to outside of peak hours.
The works are programmed to commence
early next week (w/c 10th August 2009) and are expected to be complete by
the first week of November.
Latest Mobility News from Chris

Chris, our Vulnerable Person’s Officer
has arranged for dropped kerbs to be placed opposite the entrances at
either end of the hall. This will avoid the need for those with wheelchairs
or pushchairs to have to walk in the road. Works should start shortly.
Thanks Chris!
Chris would also like to let people know
that in what may represent a dramatic victory for campaigners, Care
Services Minister Phil Hope yesterday told a reporter at the Labour Party
conference that DLA is not under threat by the care green paper. According
to the Disability Now website, Phil Hope, when asked if he would abolish
DLA after the election, replied: “No. All the models that we have done have
not included DLA. But if people were to make a case to integrate DLA into a
comprehensive system, then I'm very happy to hear that case and have those
arguments.
"DLA is not under threat and people can be very happy". For more

We’ve been busy in Brookvale….
News
item added May 2009 when removed from home page
We had a very busy end of 2008 in
Brookvale. We manned a stall at the Basingstoke Voluntary Services’ Christmas Fair to raise awareness
of who we are. We worked in partnership with a local company for a ‘day of service’ where
volunteers came and painted parts of our hall for us. Thanks to them, we are
very grateful! This was facilitated for us by Basingstoke Voluntary
Services. We held the annual Children’s
Christmas Party and hosted the Proteus Christmas pantomime ‘The Snow Queen’. What a good end to
2008 and a good start to 2009!
