October Development News
·
193 May Street (Drivesound) takeaway change of use still pending.
·
69 Worting Road (Hostel) has been fenced off ready for a 3 storey
building of improved 29 mixed units and an office.
·
Print Rite behind Downsland Parade shop has finished and is now for
sale.
·
Chapel Hill Post Office in Vyne Road has now closed. Not everyone
has the ability to access the town centre Post Office. Please write about
this to our Westminster MP Maria Miller at millerm@parliment.uk
·
Maria wrote in the Wednesday 18th October Gazette –
Planning for our Future’ – “I came away more convinced than ever that the
present system of planning has to change. It is the people of Basingstoke
and Deane who should be planning the future of our town, for us and for our
children”.
·
Maria recently held a constituent surgery at the hall when
she was also able to discuss the Old Allotments development (Churchill
Way West) with us during our post Developer Roundtable public planning
consultation. This meant our Development Subcommittee 22 points to
Cabinet increased to 34 points with a resubmitted planning application
of 291 units BDB/64360 on the Borough's website: (http://basingstoke.gov.uk/planning/)
http://planning.basingstoke.gov.uk/Acolnetcgi.gov/BDB/64360.
Our local Councillors John & Doris have received a hardcopy
which hopefully they will have time to share with us before the
Borough Development Control Committee meeting 6th
December. Please feedback any comments or offers of help to us.
·
Currently there is no lighting from Winklebury Way to West Ham
Waterworks footpath/access road past the new allotments at the end of
College Road subway. More lighting and repairs to existing lights are
urgently required.
·
Hampshire recently held an exhibition at Church Cottage about the
Mortimer Lane subway makeover. Please send in your comments,
documents to malcolm.macinnes@brookvale.org.uk.
·
The anonymous glass breaker who smashed Mr Dessi's Cost Cutter shop
in Downsland Parade also successively smashed the windows of M&M
Flowers in Flaxfield Road causing that to be boarded up. Then when
bricks started falling off the side of the Angel Bingo, this meant the
whole lot had to come down. Watch this space for the proposal arising
from this redevelopment caused by neglect.
·
The decision to sell the Attwood Close mobile home site to a
private manager/developer, clearly not in the Residents' interest when
prices will rise and tenants maybe be harassed, has been called in for
further review. Anyone who wants to sign the petition about this
please go to: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/attwood/petition.html
·
The Boundary Commission Committee current consultation of expanding
electoral wards due to growth, second round suggestion submitted
to the committee that the number of councillors be halved! This
will result in access to representation being halved, meaning we could lose
either Councillors John Shaw or Doris Jones who sit on our Development
SubCommittee. Please send your response by 16th Nov to info@boundarycommitee.org.uk.
·
Chris Hall our Equal Opportunities, Disabled Access and Vulnerable
Persons co-ordinator is writing up policies in these areas for the
Brookvale Association and welcomes any comments about these and user
issues. It is important that any planning or works or legislation is
worked on both by him and the Development SubCommittee to
avoid the situation in Winterthur Way, the existing Victory Hill
development and Victory roundabout being unsuitable for disabled
access.
