Brookvale in Bloom is our local, friendly competition,
an opportunity to show the pride in our area. There are various classes.
Competition
Launch
The competition was launched at a ‘how to’ event in the
village hall on Saturday 7th March. The launch was well attended
and included launch by the Deputy Mayor, demonstrations of filling baskets
and tubs, free seeds for children, a gardeners question time and Plant
Sales. The event report is on

This useful list of good
plants for hanging baskets and planters (PDF 134 KB) was produced.
Themes
and Classes
The themes are water
conservation and wildlife friendly. The classes are:

Small front garden (up to 6ft x 12ft)

Standard front garden
·
Hanging basket or window box
·
Children’s tray garden (for age 12 and
under)
·
Flower arrangement ‘A Sunny Day’ (for age
13 and over)

Mrs Rogers
Congratulations to the winners and our grateful thanks
to the judges for their valuable time. Entries were judged by design, all year
interest, husbandry, originality and wild life attraction.
Prizes
and Prize Giving
Prizes will be given by the Mayor at an event on the 4th
July 9.30 to 12.00, with prize giving at 10am. There will be tokens for
£25, £15 and £10 in each class and winners will receive certificates to
display.
You might take inspiration from Battens Avenue in Overton, our
picture shows what can be achieved with even very tiny front gardens. The
whole street was entered into Basingstoke
in Bloom in 2007 and 2008.
